Mooresville, Indiana is a great small town if you are looking for homes for sale on the southside of Indianapolis. It has a tight community feel, and you won’t feel like you live in the city…even with Indianapolis only 20 minutes away. The school district for the town and surrounding rural areas is Mooresville Consolidated Schools. Mooresville is not bordered by any major town or area, but it enjoys both a small town separated setting, with the convenience of being very close to the city and amenities.
What are the homes for sale in Mooresville like?
Homes in Mooresville are very affordable. People take care of their property and so you will find a great variety of homes old and new that are well maintained and updated. Many people through the years have used the land surrounding the town to build custom homes on larger parcels. You can certainly get a country feel, with a lot of privacy, if that is something you are looking for. But you can also buy a home inside of the city limits and get that more small town community feel.
How far is the commute from Mooresville to Indianapolis?
Commuting from the center of Mooresville to downtown Indianapolis will be about a 30 minute commute. It depends on where you live though. If you live on the north side of Mooresville, you will probably use I-70 and that could cut down 10 minutes. Also, if you work at the Lilly Tech Center off Raymond, that will cut 10 minutes off of going all the way downtown. Mooresville is also popular with families who have one spouse who work in Bloomington, and one in Indianapolis. And, it is very quick if you work out of the Indianapolis Airport.
What is great about living in Mooresville?
Close to 10,000 people live in Mooresville. It is a small town, but not too small. It is a big enough town to have a hospital! Since it is not bordered by other places, it is autonomous and keeps the charm of a community that has the town as its hub. And while you have everything you need, it is not far to get more “city” shopping…Plainfield’s outdoor mall and large box stores are just 10 minutes to the north. You can enjoy all the culture and sports that Indianapolis has to offer, and then retreat back you to your little piece of Mooresville.
The center of activities in Mooresville is their beautiful Pioneer Park. They have expanded their Aquatic Center, and added a Zipline through the woods recently. The park has almost 6 miles of asphalt trails. It hosts many youth sports leagues and even a 5K. In the summer, the town plans events like Mardi Gras Block Party and a Concert Series at their Bicentennial Park.
Mooresville doesn’t lack for restaurant options. It has some franchise fast food beyond your basic McDonalds, Burger King, Taco Bell, etc…they have a Wings etc, Papa Murphy’s, and my favorite for carryout pizza (GET THE SAUSAGE PIZZA) Casey’s General Store.
For a small town, they really have a lot of great locally-owned places. There’s Blueberry Hill Pancake House, Roscoe’s Tacos, Poe Brothers’ Cafeteria, Zydeco’s, Ralph & Ava’s Cafe, Pizza King and Morgan’s Corner Cafe. For some asian fare try Dong’s China Buffet, Hong Kong Restaurant and A1 Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi Bar. By far, Mooresville is known far and wide for Gray Brothers Cafeteria. It’s about 25 minutes from our house in Center Grove, but we make it a priority to get their about once a month. But a big contender for use is Squealers BBQ. We have been going there a lot lately and feel like it is currently the best real smoked BBQ on the southside!
One of the favorites for families in the fall is Anderson Orchard. They are one of the very few “U-pick” orchards around. “City” kids love this as an activity, and it is amazing to bring home fresh produce! They are open from August to November and also have great activities for the kids and an Apple Festival!
