Greenwood, Indiana is the major suburban city south of Indianapolis. There are over 50,000 residents living within the city limits of Greenwood, but much of the southside is considered “Greenwood”, as everything south of County Line Road has a Greenwood address until you get as far south as Bargersville. It’s borders are County Line Road to the north, roughly Five Points Road to the east, roughly Stone’s Crossing Road to the south, and State Road 135 to the west. The city of Greenwood is served by three different school districts: Greenwood Community Schools, Center Grove Schools and Clark-Pleasant Community Schools.
The city of Greenwood has a quaint downtown with many small businesses, including shopping and restaurants. The city is in the process of an overhaul of the downtown municipal “district”. New construction on the Hwy. 31/Smith Valley/Madison Avenue roundabouts has been a catalyst for a revitalization of the hub of Greenwood.

Outdoor activities ramp up in the summer. The city of Greenwood has an Amphitheater, and every summer they host a weekly concert series every Saturday evening from June until September. Greenwood’s premier event is the Freedom Festival which draws 50,000 people to Craig Park for fun and fireworks celebrating America! The city hosts a Farmer’s Market May through September. Outdoor movies are in offered at the Amphitheater in the fall.
The kids will be excited about the Aquatic Center at Freedom Springs Park. Just a few years old, it has become a regular summer activity for our family. When the Greenwood Pool in City Center Park was closed to build the Aquatic Center, the pool area was converted into a Splash Pad. The Splash Pad is free and much needed to give the kids a cool off on hot days!
Greenwood pulls out all the stops for the kiddos for the holidays, including Valentine’s Dance, Breakfast with the Bunny, Monster Mash for Halloween, and KiD CiTY Christmas and Breakfast with Santa in December.
