Decatur Township, in Marion County, Indiana is part of metropolitan Indianapolis. Although the township seems average-sized, the northern part is mostly industrial. Homes for sale in Decatur Township are mostly older with large yards and very few subdivisions. New homes in the area were built in the last 15 years, and are mostly in the Heartland Community Development. Homes for sale here are very affordable!
There still remain a number of larger property parcels, both undeveloped and with homes. The lesser developed areas are in the eastern section along the White River. Living in Decatur Township does not feel like city living. You can find space and land if you need it, and still feel like city life is close enough.
Growth is happening though, and fast along the State Road 67 corridor. Commercial and industrial growth has been spurred in recent years with the building of the new airport terminal and redesign of I-70.
How far is the commute from Decatur Township to Indianapolis?
Commute times are between 10 and maybe as much as 25 minutes in the outlying areas. It is an easy commute up Kentucky Avenue, with very little traffic congestion. I think it is the best commute from a suburb that you can get anywhere in Indy. Bloomington is 50 minutes, in case you have a split commute family.
What is great about living in Decatur Township?
Most of the Southside is centered towards Greenwood being the “hub” for amenities like shopping and restaurants. But if you live in Decatur Township, Plainfield, Indiana is closer. Plainfield doesn’t have quite as much shopping and restaurants as Greenwood, but it is constantly growing! There is an outdoor mall, a Target, Kohls, Walmart, Burlington Coat Factory, and lots of great restaurants. It only takes 15 minutes to drive to Plainfield from Decatur Township, so it makes it very convenient. If you live here, I think you’ll be heading over to Plainfield for a few of your needs.
Restaurants in Decatur Township are all franchise, and located along State Road 67. For sit-down and order dining, you will find O’Charley’s, Pizza Hut, Denny’s, Applebee’s, and a few mexican restaurants. For fast food, there is a Culver’s, Wendy’s, McDonald’s, Subway, KFC, Burger King, Rally’s, Sonic, Dunkin’ Donuts, Taco Bell, a China Buffet and Starbucks.
