This is my BEST OF THE SOUTHSIDE series! I am here to help you “Love Where You Live” and every year I come across things I need to share about what makes the Southside great! These are all the small businesses, services, food, shops and activities that made a big impression on me and I want to honor them by sharing with you!
My tastes have evolved so much in the last 10 years it is hard to fathom. We were laughing the other night over a basic meal I now make for the family that I would not have even wanted to try making 15 years ago because it had like 8 ingredients. I was as simple of a cook as they come…and a simple eater. Just 5 years ago I would not touch anything with a pepper in it, no way! And now…BRING. ON. THE. SPICE!
I cook a lot and I have learned that great flavor satisfies more than all the fatty things we do with simple food. So I don’t mind taking a little extra time for amazing tasting food.
And that has effected the way I eat out. I would just rather eat at home than eat food that doesn’t excite me. I don’t think I will ever qualify as a “foodie” because there are so many things I still won’t eat. I wish that I loved everything. My husband is much better about that, and he really loves trying something way different! We have a lack of “foodie” options down here on the southside and I hope that changes, but we are committed to trying all the places and our favorite is:
Greenwood & The Southside’s Best Foodie Restaurant:
Revery
At Revery, they are committed to serving fresh, locally-sourced food with quality ingredients. So much so that the menu changes often according to what is available. This week, I saw them post on their Facebook page that they have Prime Ribeyes this weekend. I love that they let their followers know what special things they are cooking up. The photo above is of a short rib plate with brussels sprouts. The plating is always beautiful and each entree comes with a creatively matched sauces and sides to make your dinner amazing!
When Revery first came to Greenwood, there were few items on the menu I would try…I’m a chicken sometimes even still. They were very progressive and I understand a chef who wants to define the cuisine. It was great food and still is! I feel like over the years they have added more menu items that are more acceptable to simple eaters, and I think that is wise and here is why: people eat out with other people! In the beginning, we went there less because I didn’t have as much to choose from on the menu. Now my tastes have changed as well and we go more often. People in Greenwood eat with friends and family and I know that there is always someone in the group who will turn their nose up at Foodie…so don’t worry, you can bring them to Revery!
We highly recommend Revery so find some friends and try it out this week!
